American Land Title Association (http://www.alta.org/) Founded in 1907, the American Land Title Association (ALTA) is the national trade association and voice of the abstract and title insurance industry. ALTA is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Nearly 3,000 title agents, abstracters, and title insurance companies are active members, ranging from small one-county operations to large national title insurers. The organization’s best known function is the promulgation of standardized forms for the terms and conditions of title insurance policies.
American Bar Association (http://www.abanet.org/) The American Bar Association is the largest voluntary professional association with more than 400,000 members and locations in Chicago and Washington, D.C. The ABA provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education, and programs to assist lawyers and judges in their work.
The Chicago Bar Association (http://www.chicagobar.org/) The Chicago Bar Association was founded in 1874 and is one of the oldest and most active metropolitan bar associations in the United States. The Association’s voluntary membership of 22,000 consists largely of lawyers and judges from Cook County and the State of Illinois. The Association’s main purpose is to establish and maintain the honor and dignity of the profession of the law and to promote the general welfare of the members thereof, particularly by sponsoring and supporting continuing legal education programs covering new developments in all fields of law.
